CPC26 Workshops | Friday 29 May 2026
Start your CPC26 experience with our practical morning workshops from 9:00am - 12:00pm before the conference officially commences at 1:00pm. Tickets are priced at just $65.00 which includes morning tea and a light lunch.
Workshop 1: Beyond the review: Motivational interviewing and soft skills for effective medicines conversations
Recommending medicines is only part of the consultation. How pharmacists communicate can shape whether patients feel heard, understood, and motivated to act.
This interactive workshop introduces consultant pharmacists to practical communication strategies that strengthen medicines conversations. Drawing on principles of motivational interviewing, participants will explore techniques such as active listening, reflective questioning and empathetic responses that support behaviour change and shared decision-making.
Workshop 2: The future is sweet: from BGL basics to connected care devices
Step into the evolving world of diabetes care with this interactive, hands‑on workshop designed especially for pharmacists. In this fun and practical session, you’ll explore the full spectrum of blood glucose monitoring—from traditional BGL meters to the latest continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems and insulin delivery devices. Participants will have the rare opportunity to try out real BGL testing, experience live CGM demonstrations, and compare how different devices work in everyday patient scenarios. Whether you're new to these technologies or looking to refresh your skills, you'll leave feeling confident, informed, and ready to support your patients with up‑to‑date, practical knowledge.
Workshop 3: Device Matters: Practical workshop on inhaler device technique
Are you familiar with all the inhaler devices available for the management of asthma and COPD? Need a refresher on inhaler techniques? Do you understand why each step is important? Can you identify common and critical errors?
Incorrect inhaler technique is unacceptably frequent and has not improved over the past 40 years. Up to 94% of patients do not use their inhaler devices correctly. Up to 85% of health professionals cannot correctly demonstrate optimal use of inhalers.
Join advanced practice pharmacist Debbie Rigby and Lung Foundation Australia nurse educators in this hands-on interactive workshop. Each participant receives a box containing all the placebo devices and accompanying Lung Foundation Australia resources.
Workshop 4: Person-centred care and immunisation case study
This workshop will explore the concept of person-centred care through a collaborative, hands-on approach to medication management. Suitable for newly credentialed or credentialing pharmacists and experienced consultant pharmacists wanting to explore new roles in a range of multidisciplinary settings. Participants will be divided into groups, each tasked with tailoring recommendations from a generic medication list to suit a specific patient demographic, such as those in residential aged care, group home care, within an Aboriginal health service, or transitioning from hospital care. Through guided discussion, participants will identify key patient features, unmet therapeutic goals, and focus areas for medication reviews, ensuring recommendations are relevant to the individual’s needs. Participants will also discuss how to review the individual’s immunisation status, identify relevant co-morbidities for consideration, eligibility for subsidised vs self-funded immunisation, and how to facilitate immunisation in specific settings.
