Pre-Conference Workshops

Friday 2nd May 2025: 9:00 am - 12:00 noon

Our practical pre-conference workshops will be held in the morning before the CPC25 conference which then commences at 1pm on Friday 2nd May.  Tickets to attend a morning workshop are priced at just $50, available for both PSA members and non-members.

Workshop 1: Exploring the potential of the aged care onsite pharmacist

This workshop will explore the evolving practice of aged care on-site pharmacists, focusing on their contributions to medication safety and the quality of medicine use. Attendees will learn practical strategies for optimising medicine management and improving resident outcomes through medicine stewardship principles, clinical governance, and quality improvement activities. Through interactive scenarios and case studies, this session will equip pharmacists with practical tools to enhance safety, compliance, and the quality of care in aged care settings.

Workshop 2: GP Pharmacists: a new era of team-based care

Unlock the full potential of the GP Pharmacist in this hands-on workshop, designed to enhance your understanding of multidisciplinary integration in primary care. Dive into the scope of the GP Pharmacist’s activities, explore MBS billing opportunities, and learn about impactful non-billable contributions such as case conferencing, transitions of care and quality improvement (QI) initiatives.

Gain unique insights into how GPs generate HMR and RMMR referrals using software tools widely utilised in GP clinics and ACCHOs nationwide.

Learn about cutting-edge AI note-taking tools, examining their practical applications in the GP Pharmacist and HMR/RMMR landscape.

Facilitated by experienced GP Pharmacists Brooke Shelly FPS, Yvette McGrath MPS, and Brooke Snow MPS, this workshop provides a unique blend of hands-on learning, collaborative discussions with a Q&A panel session, and actionable insights to advance your role in primary care.

Workshop 3: Device Matters

Are you familiar with all the inhaler devices available for the management of asthma and COPD? Need a refresher on inhaler techniques? Do you understand why each step is important? Can you identify common and critical errors?

Incorrect inhaler technique is unacceptably frequent and has not improved over the past 40 years. Up to 94% of patients do not use their inhaler devices correctly. Up to 85% of health professionals cannot correctly demonstrate optimal use of inhalers.

Join advanced practice pharmacist Debbie Rigby and Lung Foundation Australia nurse educators in this hands-on interactive workshop. Each participant receives a box containing all the placebo devices and accompanying Lung Foundation Australia resources.
