Details

Austroads reported the presence of cannabis (THC) in 11.1% of all drivers injured in a road accident and 13.1% of road fatalities. For pharmacists, understanding impairment risks, legal responsibilities, and patient counselling needs is essential as medicinal cannabis use increases across Tasmania and Victoria. This session explores the differing legal frameworks, the relationship between THC and driving performance, and the practical considerations when advising patients. Learning objectives: • Identify the legal frameworks for medicinal cannabis use and driving. • Discuss impairment risks and factors that influence driving ability. • Recognise how to counsel patients on safe and lawful driving when using cannabis products. Competency standards (2016): 1.1, 1.5, 1.6, 2.1, 3.1, 3.5
