A refresher on the management of Type 2 diabetes and its impact on cardiovascular health, focusing on appropriate use of both oral and injectable medicines. The session will cover the effects of uncontrolled diabetes on cardiovascular health and discuss diabetes medicines' mechanisms of action, indications, and potential side effects, along with strategies to optimise therapy based on patient needs. It will also highlight the management of patients with high cardiovascular risk, regardless of HbA1c levels, and the implications of the recent PBS listing change for dapagliflozin in December last year. Additionally, we’ll discuss appropriate patient education, including the use of medicines, troubleshooting common issues, and supporting adherence to treatment regimens.
