Synopsis

This session will provide a clinical update on kidney health, focusing on the impact of Prescription Only and over-the-counter (OTC) medicines on kidney function. The session will have particular attention on high-risk groups, such as older people, those in transition of care and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (ATSI). Pharmacists will gain insights into optimising medicine use in these populations, managing potential risks, and improving kidney health outcomes.

Learning objectives:

1. Identify the impact of medicines on kidney health.

2. Describe the considerations in managing medicines for patients with renal impairment.

3. Discuss strategies for optimising medicine use to support kidney health in vulnerable populations.
