Biography

Dr Cherie Lucas FPS, SFHEA is a Nexus Fellow at UNSW’s Faculty of Medicine and Health and a registered pharmacist with over 34 years of experience across community, hospital, and industry roles. With 24+ years in academic teaching at USYD, UTS, and UNSW, Dr Lucas is a recipient of the AAUT Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning and was appointed a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (FPS) in 2024. Currently Deputy President of the Pharmacy Council of NSW, Dr Lucas also holds Adjunct Fellow positions at UTS and completed all qualifications, including a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education), at the University of Sydney.

Tamrat Balcha Balla (BPharm, MSc) is a pharmacist and pharmaceutics lecturer at Wolaita Sodo University, Ethiopia, with nine years of academic, research, and leadership experience. His professional background and research focus center on pharmaceutical formulation science, excipient development, and innovative drug delivery systems. He currently leads a funded research project on the development and optimization of pharmaceutical-grade starch extracted from Taro Boloso I, a locally cultivated crop, with promising application in direct compression and personalized dosage forms. His publication record, recognition, and broader impact reflect his active engagement in advancing pharmaceutical sciences in low-resource settings. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed, and contributed to national initiatives aimed at strengthening local pharmaceutical manufacturing. Tamrat has completed multiple international training programs and remains committed to translational research that bridges pharmaceutics, materials science, and technology-based solutions to improve access to quality medicines in underserved communities.

Kate is an experienced science educator and high school science teacher, turned early career pharmacist. She completed her MPharm at the University of Canberra, and intern year and early period as a registered pharmacist at Charnwood Capital Chemist in the ACT. Kate has since taken on the role of Pharmacist in Charge at Harrington Beach Pharmacy on the mid north coast of NSW. She enjoys the changing nature of pharmacy and its' technical /academic side in equal measure to working closely with customers to support their health care journeys. Kate has a keen interest in patient education and preventative health.
