Our understanding of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is constantly evolving, and pharmacists are pivotal in the multidisciplinary approach needed to manage this condition and optimise patient outcomes.

Within this session we’ll look at the neurochemistry and executive dysfunctioning of ADHD, potential strengths as well as advancements in treatment. The pharmacist's role in providing holistic care as part of the interdisciplinary ADHD management team, in management and review of medicines and assist with medicine selection, dosing and monitoring. The impact of lifestyle interventions, diet, complementary therapies and considerations, and the importance of a collaborative approach involving the healthcare team, patients, and families will also be explored.

This session will equip you with the tools needed to support your patients living with ADHD and help you to work as part of the multidisciplinary ADHD management team.

1. Identify strategies used to manage ADHD.
2.Recognise how engaging with people with ADHD meaningfully can optimise their health outcomes.
3.Discuss how pharmacists, as part of a multidisciplinary team, can assist people to manage ADHD symptoms.

Biography

Dr Anthony Zehetner (FRACP MMed(Paed) MBBS BPharm DCH DipMgt GCertPTT MPS) is a subspecialist Consultant Paediatrician in Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine. For over 13 years he has managed the Care and Intervention for Children and Adolescents affected by Drugs and Alcohol (CICADA) Family service at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. Dr Zehetner is also a registered Consultant Pharmacist, Clinical Senior Lecturer for The University of Sydney, Acting Chair of the NSW Department of Health Stimulant Subcommittee, an accredited Parenting and Emotion-Coaching practitioner and a private paediatrician on the Central Coast.
