Long-acting injectable buprenorphine (LAIB) is recommended for opioid dependence, due to an improved safety profile, simpler regimen and greater convenience and accessibility for patients with pharmacist administration of LAIB.
This session will explore how to operate and set up this service, ensuring appropriate links are built with relevant prescribers of opioid treatment. We will also discuss appropriate communication methods with patients who are opioid dependant as well as providing a hand's on practical administration workshop, stepping through any differences between the available products.
Learning objectives
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Explain the process of setting up and operating a Long-Acting Injectable Buprenorphine (LAIB) administration service.
2. Discuss effective communication methods for interacting with individuals who are opioid-dependent.
3. Describe the correct LAIB administration techniques.

Biography
John Jones is a pharmacist and dietitian who is passionate about delivering patient focused services in the pharmacy. He is the owner of My Community Pharmacy Shortland, Caves Beach and Darby Street Cooks Hill.
The pharmacy’s purpose is to be an integral part of the healthcare team and work collaboratively with other healthcare providers to improve the health of the community. He holds a Mast of Pharmacy, Master of Business Administration, Nutrition and Dietetics along with a Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education.
The pharmacy runs an injectable medication clinic, opioid treatment program and medication compounding service.
