It's been two years since the release of the 10 year National Obesity Strategy and with the spotlight clearly on injectable medicines for weight loss, with increased consumer knowledge as a result of social media, this session will discuss the management of overweight and obesity.
Join our expert to discuss the management of overweight and obesity, aligning with the new APF Treatment guideline for pharmacists and with a focus on holistic care and treatment options.
Learning objectives
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Identify clinical features and classifications of overweight and obesity.
2. Discuss medicines used for the treatment of overweight and obesity.
3. Recognise when to refer a person for review by a medical practitioner.

Biography
Dr Irene Um is a Pharmacist and Senior Lecturer at The University of Sydney School of Pharmacy. Irene has completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons I), a PhD in Pharmacy and a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies. Irene’s research interests are in pharmacy education and obesity, particularly the pharmacist’s role in weight management. In 2022, she was recognised by the International Pharmaceutical Federation as a FIPWiSE (Women in Science and Education) Rising Star.
