The evolution of new and innovative technologies offers consumers more sophisticated goods, services and experiences. Revolutionary devices, including smart watches allows us to stay connected around the clock whilst monitoring our fitness and providing entertainment. A feature application of many smart devices allows us to self-monitor irregular heart rhythm to detect any signs of atrial fibrillation. Additionally, many smart devices allow wearers to take an ECG directly using their watch. However, the use of such smart devices is also considered controversial due to the limitations and impact of the device. Join us to discuss the role of smart devices in consumer health and how you can support consumers accessing information from smart devices. We will discuss the reliability of the data received and the support and referral pathways available to consumers. Learning objectives At the end of this session, participants will be able to: 1. Explain the pathophysiology of atrial fibrillation. 2. Discuss the role of pharmacists in interpreting data identified and detected from smart devices. 3. Outline the impact of smart devices in the community. Competency standards: 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5
