Details
Changes to GP prescribing, combined with ongoing stimulant medicine shortages, have fundamentally shifted how people living with ADHD access and maintain treatment. For many patients, even brief interruptions can mean loss of focus, reduced performance at work or school, emotional dysregulation and significant disruption to daily life.
In this environment, pharmacists are often the first to recognise emerging supply risks and the last safeguard protecting treatment continuity.
This session examines the clinical, regulatory and practical realities of ADHD care during prescribing reform and medicine shortages. Participants will review current pharmacotherapy, consider the implications of recent regulatory changes, and explore safe strategies for managing changes to medicine regimes.
Focused, practical and clinically relevant, this session will equip pharmacists with the confidence to manage disruption, minimise harm and keep ADHD treatment on track when systems are under pressure.
Learning objectives:
• Identify prescribing and supply changes affecting ADHD treatment.
• Discuss clinical strategies to maintain continuity during shortages.
• Recognise risks when switching or modifying ADHD therapy.
Competency standards (2016): 1.1, 1.6, 3.1, 3.5
