The twenty-first century has seen the advent of life changing HIV, viral hepatitis and STI medicine. Advances in prevention, diagnostics and treatments have reshaped the landscape and pharmacy has been part of that shift. The facts: 1. The life expectancy of a person living with HIV is now similar to a person living without HIV. There are many HIV treatment options available, and for some a daily tablet is being replaced by a monthly injectable combination. 2. Hepatitis C is curable with two to three months of treatment. 3. Hepatitis B treatments prevent liver diseases and cancer, and the prospect of a functional cure emphasizes the need to engage everyone in care. Pharmacists are increasingly the first point of contact for testing, early detection and access to therapies (including onsite injectables administration) - and the next decade will only accelerate this trend! In this PSA26 Masterclass, Australia’s leading experts will unpack what pharmacists must know to stay ahead: from the latest national guidelines to practical updates on PrEP, HIV treatment advances, hepatitis C elimination, and the latest STI management strategies. You’ll gain confidence applying current evidence, understand emerging consumer expectations, and explore the role pharmacists will play in new testing, treatment and care models. Learning objectives: • Discuss treatment guidelines for STI, viral hepatitis and HIV and determine appropriateness of treatment options. • Recognise the benefits, risks and practical considerations of selected current and pipeline treatment options for STI, viral hepatitis and HIV. • Describe emerging models of care in pharmacy practice for testing, early detection and access to treatment for STI, viral hepatitis and HIV. Competency standards (2016): 3.1, 3.5, 3.6
