Acne is one of the most common skin conditions seen in pharmacy - yet misconceptions, misinformation and mixed messages about treatment still persist. This session cuts through the noise to bring clinical clarity to acne management. Through a practical lens, you’ll explore how pharmacists can assess acne severity, support effective prescription and non-prescription therapy, and manage treatment adherence and expectations. From topical retinoids and combination products to antibiotic stewardship and patient counselling, this session delivers the unfiltered truth about helping patients achieve clearer skin — and greater confidence. Learning objectives: - Identify the clinical features and severity grading of acne to support appropriate management. - Discuss evidence-based treatment options, including topical and oral therapies, and their place in therapy. - Recognise strategies for promoting adherence, managing expectations and reducing risk of antibiotic resistance. - Describe counselling approaches that address common myths and misinformation about acne care. Competency standards (2016): 3.1, 3.3, 3.5, 3.6
