In 2023, community pharmacies administered over 2.2 million influenza vaccinations, accounting for almost a quarter of all flu vaccines given across Australia. They also delivered more than 11.6 million COVID-19 vaccinations, at one point making up half of all doses nationwide. Pharmacists have proven they are a cornerstone of Australia’s immunisation system — and now they’re taking that expertise further. For our first session of our vaccine stream, we are looking at the critical role of pharmacists in keeping travellers protected abroad. From Japanese encephalitis and typhoid to hepatitis and yellow fever, you’ll discover the latest updates, schedules and practical tips for delivering travel vaccines safely and confidently. Learn how to expand your travel health services, build stronger vaccine conversations, and keep your patients protected, wherever they’re heading next! Learning objectives: - Identify key vaccine-preventable diseases relevant to international travel from Australia. - Discuss current recommendations and scheduling considerations for travel vaccines. - Describe strategies to integrate travel vaccination services into pharmacy practice to improve accessibility and patient care. Competency standards (2016): 2.3, 3.5, 3.6
