Allergic rhinitis is becoming a key topic in pharmacy, with almost one in four Australians (23.9 %) reporting the condition impacts them. Many people dismiss it as “just hay-fever” and don’t realise how significantly it affects sleep, concentration and quality of life. This session focuses on how pharmacists can make a real difference in allergic rhinitis care. Learn how to recognise the condition, differentiate it from other nasal disorders, recommend appropriate treatment options, and support patients in overcoming ongoing symptoms. By improving how we manage allergic rhinitis in pharmacy, we help people breathe easier every day. Learning objectives • Identify the prevalence, causes and key symptoms of allergic rhinitis. • Recognise when allergic rhinitis is suitable for pharmacist management and when referral is needed. • Describe the range of evidence-based treatment options available in pharmacy. • Discuss counselling points and strategies to improve adherence and symptom control. Competency standards (2016): 3.1, 3.3, 3.5, 3.6
