The operation is over — but for many patients, the pain and the risks are just beginning. Pharmacists are uniquely positioned to change the story of post-surgical recovery, ensuring pain relief is effective, responsible and safe. This session takes a fresh look at post-surgical pain management in the age of opioid stewardship. Discover how to balance comfort and caution, when to step down therapy, and how to guide patients through recovery without dependence. Hear practical strategies, real examples and the latest evidence that will challenge how you think about pain, prescribing and the pharmacist’s role in every patient’s recovery. Learning objectives: - Discuss evidence-based approaches to balancing effective pain relief with opioid stewardship. - Identify when and how to support step-down therapy and non-opioid pain strategies. - Describe practical communication techniques to guide patients safely through recovery and reduce misuse risk.
