Ear pain, discharge and infection are common presentations in pharmacy, and with pharmacist prescribing expanding, so is the opportunity to manage them. This session explores how pharmacists can confidently assess, treat and follow up otitis externa and otitis media in line with current practice guidelines. Through practical examples, you will learn how to differentiate between presentations, select appropriate treatments, and recognise when referral is essential. Strengthen your clinical reasoning, treatment planning and counselling skills in one of pharmacy’s most relevant new prescribing areas. Learning objectives: - Identify the distinguishing features of otitis externa and otitis media presentations in pharmacy. - Discuss appropriate treatment options within pharmacist prescribing scope. - Recognise when medical referral or escalation is required. - Describe effective counselling and follow-up strategies for safe, patient-centred ear care. Competency standards (2016): 3.1, 3.3, 3.5, 3.6
