Prescribing models in general practice are shifting globally, with different countries adopting varied approaches to expand access, improve safety, and optimise workforce capability. This panel explores how prescribing is delivered across international settings, highlighting key differences in scope, governance, and integration within primary care teams. Discussion will draw on real-world examples to examine what is working, where challenges remain, and what lessons can be applied locally. Attendees will gain a broader perspective on how prescribing models can evolve to support safe, efficient, and patient-centred care. Biography

Libby Mcculloch is a highly experienced pharmacist with a strong background in community, hospital and primary care practice. With degrees in Pharmacy and Physiology from the University of Otago, she specialises in medicines management, clinical pharmacy and quality improvement. Libby currently works as a Primary Care Clinical Pharmacist at Karori Medical Centre, and as a Professional Practice Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society NZ. She is also currently undertaking post graduate study towards becoming a pharmacist prescriber. In addition, she serves as member of the Ministry of Health's Medicines Adverse Reactions Committee (MARC). Passionate about people and the profession, Libby is committed to advocating for the pharmacy workforce and supporting high-quality, patient-centred care.

Biography

Vidya is a Pharmacist with extensive experience in primary care and hospital settings in the UK and Australia. Vidya previously practiced in the UK as a General practice pharmacist and independent prescriber, where she was part of the initial national pilot cohort of 500 pharmacists integrated into general practice. Vidya currently works as Senior Pharmacist in the Geriatric Department at Flinders Medical Centre hospital in Adelaide. She has a particular interest in advancing the role of pharmacists in General Practice, safe prescribing and improving healthcare outcomes through interdisciplinary collaboration.

Biography

Brooke Shelly is a rural Victorian pharmacist with a dynamic portfolio career spanning General Practice, credentialed medication management and residential medication management reviews, and multidisciplinary telehealth. She is a GP Pharmacist at Ontario Medical Clinic, a Senior Clinical Pharmacist with Beyond Pain, and the sole proprietor of MyMedManagement, delivering complex medication and residential medication management reviews across regional and remote areas. In 2024, Brooke was named PSA Consultant Pharmacist of the Year and elevated to Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia. She is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at La Trobe Rural Health School, serves on the Murray PHN Clinical Advisory Council, sits on the Advisory Network for the National Rural Health Commissioner, and is a member of the Monash Rural Health School Community Advisory Council. Brooke has previously held board positions with Pharmacy Support Services (PSS) and the Pharmaceutical Society of Victoria (PSV). Known for her leadership in rural health advocacy, Brooke is passionate about embedding pharmacists within multidisciplinary teams to improve access and outcomes, particularly for rural communities. Brooke brings clinical expertise, governance experience, and a deep commitment to health equity to her role on the PSA National Board.

Biography

Chris is a GP and Practice Owner of North Shore General Practice Townsville. Chris is passionate about Multi-Disciplinary Care and has developed a team based approach for chronic conditions including GP, nursing, social worker and pharmacist within the practice. He has also been involved as a Designated Prescribing Practioner for the Pharmacy Prescribing Pilot.
