Beyond the Pills: Integrating Lifestyle Medicine into Your Practice
Biography
Tim has spent over 50 years in pharmacy, starting as an after-school deliverer of medicines in a small country town in northern NSW. After graduating in 1981, Tim's official career began in community pharmacy, working part time for a number of years while also studying and practising traditional Chinese medicine. He owned a pharmacy in western Sydney from 1994 until 2010. From there his links with local aged care facilities, GP associations and the Western Sydney Primary Health Network (Wentwest) led to his involvement in establishing the longest running General Practice Pharmacist program in Australia. He has worked in medical practices since 2016 and as the Primary Care Pharmacist Lead for Western Sydney PHN since 2020. He has worked to advance the pharmacist-in-general-practice model, hosting national symposia and serving on the MBS Review Committee. Holistic, team-based care has always been important, and that approach has been formalized over the last few years through certifications in both Lifestyle Medicine and Health Coaching. Tim is also pursuing a Master of Philosophy looking at ways to improve communication and collaboration among healthcare professionals supporting people on opioid agonist treatment.
