Details
This session will provide a comprehensive review of common arrhythmias, excluding atrial fibrillation, frequently encountered in clinical practice. We will investigate their causes, clinical presentation, and primary management strategies. Special emphasis will be on Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), now considered one of the most prevalent arrhythmias. The session will explore the underlying causes, diagnostic approaches, clinical consequences, and effective management options for POTS, offering valuable insights into its identification and treatment in clinical settings.
Learning objectives:
1. Describe the basic re-entry electrophysiology that results in propagated arrhythmia.
2. Identify at least three relatively common non-Atrial Fibrillation arrhythmias seen in clinical practice.
3. Differentiate POTS from other tachycardias based on clinical signs and symptoms.
4. Explain the treatment options for POTS and their mechanism of action.
Competency standards (2016): 3.3, 3.5
