Biography
Jo (Josephine) Thomas (FRACP, PhD) is a non-Indigenous woman, working and living on Kaurna land. She graduated from Flinders University South Australia in 1990 and worked in General Practice in Sydney and Adelaide, before pursuing Physician Training. She is a Specialist General Physician, Clinical Pharmacologist and Educator; and completed a PhD in Medical Education in 2020. A passionate clinician educator with a commitment to high-quality teaching, training, and clinical service delivery; her extensive experience in medical education spans the continuum from medical school to postgraduate education. Her many education roles include physician education, RACP national examining panel member, SAMET education subcommittee chair in addition to roles in AMC clinical assessment.
She was recently appointed Clinical Dean at University of Adelaide, NALHN. Her commitment to the University of Adelaide medical program spans many years. She has developed and taught a number of courses in the MBBS (including the highly successful transition to internship program), held the position of MBBS program coordinator and led the development of the BMD framework.
Her clinical work is in complex care and includes young adults transitioning from paediatric care. She has a strong interest in interprofessional learning and practice and has been involved in teaching pharmacy students and qualified pharmacists over many years.
