Over 3.2 million Australians are affected by chronic pain, with many experiencing the added complexity of Chronic Respiratory Symptoms (CRS). This session offers a powerful exploration of living with pain through the eyes of individuals navigating CRS. Drawing on personal stories from members of chronic pain support groups, we will examine the real-world challenges, coping strategies, and the pivotal role of the community in managing chronic conditions. Gain insights into how pharmacists can provide better support and care for individuals living with CRS, improving patient outcomes through understanding and tailored interventions. Learning objectives: 1. Identify the challenges faced by individuals living with Chronic Respiratory Symptoms (CRS) and chronic pain. 2. Recognise the role of chronic pain support groups in providing emotional and practical support for individuals with CRS. 3. Discuss how pharmacists can enhance care for patients with CRS through tailored support and community engagement. Competency standards (2016): 1.1, 1.6, 2.1, 3.1, 3.6

Biography

Kimberley is a volunteer peer mentor and facilitator with Chronic Pain Australia. Kimberley lives with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), Endometriosis and migraines, which shapes her passion for supporting others who are experiencing chronic pain. Kimberley is also the primary carer of her three children, who all have special needs. Through her role as a pain support group facilitator, Kimberley assists women, many of whom are survivors of domestic violence, to navigate their own pain journeys. Kimberley is a proud board member for Health Consumers NSW and frequently collaborates with healthcare professionals to deliver pain education presentation in the Illawarra Region of NSW, alongside a pain nurse and drug and alcohol rehabilitation officer. In addition, Kimberley serves on a comprehensive care committee for local district hospitals, working to improve patient care and ensure that those affected by pain receive the support they need.
